Why I love Final Round AI’s resume builder
Resume builders are a dime a dozen these days, especially those touting ‘AI’ to save you time. However, creating your resume is no longer a one-time thing as we aim to optimize and personalize it for each job. The other big issue with AI resume builders is that the output is formatted TERRIBLY. So you end spending more time just laying out information.
Final Round has found a nice sweet spot in the resume building space that we’ll walk through below. Note that they do have an entire sweet of AI-based career tools, but today we’ll hone in on one.
Upload existing resume
The first step is to upload your existing resume. You can start from scratch, but this step save a good amount of time. Their systems automatically detects where your information, experience, educations, etc. are supposed to go and places them in editable input fields. You get a continuous preview of what your resume output will look like as you update fields on the left.
Personalize & optimize with AI keywords
Once you’ve got your information in there and moved things around as desired, you can regenerate your sections with the context of keywords that you can pull from a job description that you’re applying to. It’ll rewrite the section in a way that will tickle an ATS’ fancy and get in the door to that first round interview.
How do I get keywords for a job?
Great question! Inside of the Final Round app, click on the AI Career Coach tab and use the following prompt:
Can you give me keywords to optimize my resume for ATS from this job description? [insert job description text]
Export / download your shiny new, ATS-optimized resume!
Once you’re happy with it, make sure it’s saved in the system, then you can download your resume as a PDF that is ready to be attached to your job application. SNAP
Now go give it try! That entire sequence is FREE. You can buy credits later on if you want to explore their AI Interview products, but for resumes, you can use it over and over.
Why GenAI Is More Likely To Support Workers Than Replace Them
The Indeed Hiring Lab assessed the ability of GPT-4o, a GenAI model developed by OpenAI, to perform more than 2,800 job skills. Each skill was assessed across three main areas: The ability of GenAI to provide theoretical knowledge related to the skill; The ability of GenAI to solve problems using the skill; and GenAI’s determination of the importance of physical presence in utilizing that skill. These three ratings were considered by the model as part of an ultimate assessment of the likelihood that GenAI could replace a human in performing any of those 2,800+ individual skills.
Indeed’s Hiring Lab sheds light on the role of generative AI (GenAI) in the workplace, emphasizing that AI is more likely to support rather than replace human workers. By analyzing over 2,800 work skills, the study found that none are “very likely” to be fully replaced by GenAI. Instead, AI excels in offering theoretical knowledge and handling routine tasks, but it struggles with problem-solving and physical execution, which are critical in many jobs. The article concludes that while AI will not eliminate jobs, workers who leverage AI will be more competitive in the job market.
Key Takeaways for Job Seekers:
Support Over Replacement: AI is more likely to assist with tasks rather than replace human jobs, especially in roles requiring physical presence or complex problem-solving.
Strength in Theory, Weakness in Practice: GenAI is strong in theoretical knowledge but weaker in solving problems and handling tasks requiring hands-on skills.
Continued Learning is Key: As GenAI tools evolve, ongoing upskilling will be crucial to stay competitive and effectively utilize these technologies.
