🚦 The Counterintuitive Secret to Productivity: Knowing When to Stop

A recent Slack Workplace Lab survey of 10,000 desk-based employees sheds new light on the productivity debate. It reveals that those who disconnect from work after hours are 20% more productive and experience less stress than their counterparts who continue working (shocker). This finding contradicts the conventional belief that longer working hours equate to higher productivity.

The survey also uncovers a "goldilocks zone" of productivity, suggesting an ideal four-hour span for focused work each day (now we’re talking). Beyond this, especially with over two hours of meetings, employees feel overburdened. This insight is critical for job seekers and employers alike, as it emphasizes the importance of efficient work practices and balanced meeting schedules.

These findings underscore the value of a commitment to maintaining work-life balance. It encourages seeking roles in companies that prioritize employee well-being and productivity within regular working hours. This approach not only fosters personal well-being but also aligns with emerging trends for optimal workplace efficiency.

Where Can I Find My Goldilocks Company?

When it comes to searching and comparing companies by more qualitative measures, Key Values is one of the best resources out there.

You can filter by which values and other cultural aspects resonate with you. For instance, I filtered by “Work-Life Balance” considering the findings from above, and below are some of the companies that were surfaced. Each company also has job listings within their profiles, and while they mainly stick to engineering roles, you can jump to their main site to view their careers pages.

Curai

“Curai is a virtual primary care clinic working on expanding healthcare access and delivering the best care to everyone through AI.”

Karat

“It takes engineers to hire engineers. Karat is your dedicated hiring engineer. We augment your engineering organization with a premium hiring service powered by a network of highly-skilled interviewers, robust hiring analytics, and best practice insights.”

Repeat

These are only a few examples, but being able to browse companies by these ‘soft’, qualitative measure really gives job seekers valuable insight and makes you more intentional when finding the right place to work.
