Breaking Up With Employees
The Latest Trend In Corporate Ghosting

👋🏻 Hello World!
It looks like your previous employer just terminated your contract... don't worry; the startup apocalypse isn't upon us just yet - this is just a minor setback in your career passage! Instead, think of it as an uninstall of an app that's taken up too much space on your phone. Sure, you might have lost access to the cloud benefits, but now you have the freedom to reboot and debug your career path. Plus, with a pleasantly painful severance package, you'll have enough cache to upgrade your skills, interface with new opportunities, and sync up with some excellent recruiters! Trust me; you'll be back online in no time! (Phew. Holding those in has been quite the pun-ishment.)
"Looks like the company's latest feature release is...laying off its employees."
📈 Tech Layoffs: Women Taking the Brunt of the Storm
Hold onto your North Face vest, because the tech industry's layoffs are hitting women like a frickin' tsunami! According to the all-knowing Roger Lee of Layoffs.fyi, 44.8% of the employees laid off by tech companies from October 2022 to January 2023 were women. And get this, before 2022, women only made up a measly 28% of the industry's workforce. Are you kidding me?! This is beyond disturbing, especially when you factor in the countless women who were forced out of the workforce altogether during the pandemic. Sheesh!
💬 ChatGPT Tip of the Week
For those that have been under a rock these past few months, you may have only heard whispers of ChatGPT. Just to cover our bases, ChatGPT is an AI language model that can understand and respond to human language. Sounds simple enough right? Well, overnight, some job types have entirely disappeared, while many new ones have instantly been created. Its true power lies in how you ask it questions, otherwise known as prompt engineering (overview for you nerds).
As a job seeker, let’s see how we can make it work for you.
Prompt:
Create a professional summary for my resume: [paste literally everything from your resume]
The output will be a little rough, but it could very well give you a great starting point to edit your new professional summary!
🛠️ AI Tools to Help with Employment
Honeit: A platform that uses AI to help you prepare for and conduct interviews with potential employers.
Textio: A tool that uses machine learning to analyze job descriptions and suggest changes to improve their effectiveness.
Jobscan: A platform that uses AI to analyze your resume and compare it to job descriptions to identify areas for improvement.
Wade & Wendy: A chatbot recruiting platform that uses AI to help candidates find jobs and connect with potential employers
Clara: An AI-based virtual recruiting assistant that schedules interviews and helps candidates prepare for them.
Studioshot.ai - Not an ad - Last week, I stumbled upon this TikTok that showed how to upgrade your LinkedIn game with AI headshots. It's like having a digital assistant that's always got your back (and your wallet). 🤖💰💼 In just a few days, they generated 80 (!!!) photos for me. Here are a few of my favorites:

Also, check out our friends over at WarnTracker.com - “A WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice is a notice required by the federal WARN Act in the United States, which mandates that employers with 100 or more employees provide at least 60 days advance written notice of a plant closing or mass layoff affecting 50 or more employees. The notice is intended to provide affected employees with sufficient time to prepare for the loss of their jobs and to seek alternative employment.”
💼 The Corporate Cool Kids (Companies & Jobs)
Glide - The company's main product is the Glide platform, which allows users to build and publish mobile apps using Google Sheets as a backend database. Founded in 2018, they raised a $20M Series A a year ago, and have that certain, how do you say, rocketship potential? The future is no-code! Though… they are mainly hiring engineering roles right now 😅, but worth a look!
Loom - Loom is a video messaging platform that allows users to quickly and easily record and share videos async with their team, coworkers, or customers. The pandemic was a boon for Loom as it gave teams remote, super communication powers. There are a lot of competitors in the space, but Loom has shown true staying power. Their medium-sized, Series C status gives them less mooning potential, but they’re well-positioned for this market.
