💬 Job Seekers Find Success Using ChatGPT

AI & ChatGPT are everywhere, and right now, there is plenty of fear to go along with it. Goldman Sachs just released a research report claiming that shifts in workflows triggered by new AI technologies and platforms could expose the equivalent of 300 million full-time jobs to automation. They do go on to say:

“Although the impact of AI on the labor market is likely to be significant, most jobs and industries are only partially exposed to automation and are thus more likely to be complemented rather than substituted by AI.”

Joseph Briggs, Devesh Kodnani | Goldman Sachs Economists

There’s also excitement around the opportunity and efficiency that AI brings (as you can see in the explosion in monthly search volume below for ‘ai’).

The trend is clear. The AI wave is here.

As a job seeker, there are many ways to leverage some of these new tools, most notably ChatGPT, to help with the job hunt. In fact, many are already finding success using it.

According to a recent survey conducted by ResumeBuilder.com, over 1,000 current and recent job seekers - defined as individuals who have looked for a job within the past two months - have utilized ChatGPT when applying.

  • 46% of job seekers are using ChatGPT to write their resumes and/or cover letters

  • 7 in 10 who have used ChatGPT report a higher response rate from companies

  • 78% got an interview when using application materials written by ChatGPT

  • 59% were hired after applying to a job using materials written by ChatGPT

📈 Initial Jobless Claims Down This Week

Last week's initial jobless claims were seasonally adjusted*** and revised up by 48,000 from 198,000 to 246,000. So this week’s number of claims at 228K was an 18K improvement. The next few weeks should provide a better picture of where the job market is heading and if it seems companies are picking up the hiring again.

Initial Jobless Claims measure the number of individuals who have recently filed for unemployment benefits for the first time. A higher number of initial claims indicates that more people are losing their jobs and may be struggling to find work. ‘SA’ is Seasonally Adjusted.

*Insured Unemployed refers to people who have lost their jobs and are receiving financial assistance through unemployment insurance. This helps understand how many people need help finding new jobs and how healthy the job market is.

***Seasonally Adjusted data accounts for seasonal fluctuations in joblessness that can occur due to a variety of factors, such as holidays, weather patterns, and school schedules. By seasonally adjusting the initial jobless claims data, analysts can compare the data from one period to another with greater accuracy.
