🦾 OffboardGPT Now Equipped with GPT-4

Offboard’s Career Companion that we’ve dubbed OffboardGPT (super clever), is now powered by GPT-4 instead of 3.5.

To give some perspective, GPT-4 is 10x more advanced and can provide significantly more creative and complex answers up to 32K tokens (potentially up to 40 pages worth of information). Currently, to use GPT-4 on ChatGPT, it’ll cost you $20/mo. Other platforms like Perplexity.ai or Bing Search (you’ll have to download their browser) allow for free, limited use of GPT-4.

📉 U.S. Layoffs Take a Nosedive!

The May JOLTS report was released last Friday. Here are the key points you need to know:

  • Layoffs in the U.S. plummeted nearly 50% from May to June, hitting a seven-month low. 📉

  • 40,700 employees faced layoffs in June, which was a significant drop from nearly 80,100 in May. 🎈

  • Despite this, job cuts are still up 25% from a year ago, so employers are keeping a close eye on their teams. 👀

  • Major layoffs were conducted by 16 U.S. companies in June, including KPMG, Ford, and Grubhub. 🏢

  • But don't sweat it! The drop in layoffs is typical for the start of summer and could also be due to the Fed's decision to keep interest rates steady. 🏖️

The JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey) report is a survey done by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics each month to help measure job vacancies. It collects data from employers about their businesses' employment, job openings, recruitment, hires and separations.

JOLTS defines Job Openings as all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month. A job is "open" only if it meets all three of the following conditions:

1. A specific position exists and there is work available for that position.

2. The job could start within 30 days, whether or not the establishment finds a suitable candidate during that time.

3. There is active recruiting for workers from outside the establishment location that has the opening.

A reading that is stronger than forecast is generally supportive (bullish) for the USD, while a weaker than forecast reading is generally negative (bearish) for the USD.

WARN Tracker

A WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice is a notice required by the federal WARN Act in the United States, which mandates that employers with 100 or more employees provide at least 60 days advance written notice of a plant closing or mass layoff affecting 50 or more employees.

WARNtracker tracks these and conveniently displays them in a database. They have also recently launched a new job board with 16,000+ jobs from over 300 companies!
