📉 Hiring Declines Continue through August
The LinkedIn Workforce Report for September 2023 provides an analysis of the current job market trends in the United States, based on data up until August 2023. Here are the key takeaways:

National Hiring Trends:
There has been a decline in hiring rates nationally, with a 3.6% decrease in August compared to July. This marks the third consecutive month of declining hiring rates, indicating a cooling labor market.
Despite the decline, the confidence of US members in finding or retaining a job has remained at a 5-month high, according to the Workforce Confidence Index.
Industry-Specific Insights:
The hiring rate has increased in only one of the 20 industries analyzed in August, a decrease from nine in the previous month.
Industries that saw a significant increase in hiring include Holding Companies (+5.5%), while Technology, Information, and Media (-2.5%), and Transportation and Logistics (-2.7%) experienced slight decreases.
The sectors with the weakest hiring rates were Wholesale (-13.9%), Consumer Services (-11.3%), and Retail (-10.7%).
Over the past six months, 18 of the 20 industries have seen milder declines in hiring compared to the previous six months, with a median increase of 5.3 percentage points.
Metropolitan Area Analysis:
Only one of the 20 metropolitan areas tracked saw an increase in hiring in August, compared to three in the previous month.
The metropolitan areas with the strongest performance were Austin (+1.9%), Los Angeles (-1.1%), and San Francisco (-2.3%).
Areas such as Nashville (-13.3%), St. Louis (-11.5%), and Boston (-7.4%) experienced significant declines in hiring on a month-over-month basis.
On a year-over-year basis, Phoenix (-24.1%), Miami/Fort Lauderdale (-24.5%), and Cleveland (-25.7%) were among the strongest performing metros, while Nashville (-32.5%), St. Louis (-33.95%), and Seattle (-34.4%) continued to struggle.
Migration Trends

The cities experiencing the highest loss of population are College Station-Bryan, TX; Gainesville, FL; and Tallahassee, FL.
Conversely, the cities gaining the most people are North Port-Sarasota, FL; Charleston, SC; and Tampa Bay, FL.

Getting Started
1. Sign up and jump into the dashboard
2. Import Resume, Start from Scratch, Use Template, or Use LinkedIn
For our purposes, we’ll import our information from LinkedIn. You’ll first install their free Chrome plugin to extract a .rezi file.
Go back to the Dashboard, create a new resume and select ‘From LinkedIn’.

3. Optimize Your Resume to the Job
Plug in the specific job title and the description that you are applying for. This will generate a list of keywords that you can then add to your resume to be more attractive to Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
Use the AI Writer to edit your experience bullets points. It will generate new content that is optimized for ATS and uses the STAR method. The AI Writer is also integrated into creating content for all sections of your resume.
4. Download or Share a Link
